Frequently asked questions

Good to know

Everything worth knowing before we start.

Nothing to start. Most jobs begin with a free 10-minute video call: show us the job on your phone and we can usually price it there and then. If we need to see it in person, a visit is £30, it comes straight off the cost whenever you go ahead, and if it turns out not to be a job for us, you don’t pay it. A half-day starts at £140, a full day at £260, materials on top at cost. You will know the price before we lift a tool. Specialist work, such as rendering or tree surgery, is quoted job by job once we have seen it.

Not if you are close by. We are based in Chelsea, and anywhere within about 4 miles has no travel charge. A little further out, up to 6 miles, we add £15 to the job. Beyond that, we book work as half-days or longer, with £25 up to 9 miles and £40 further afield. It covers time on the road and parking, it is never added to the £30 visit, and you will see it on your quote before anything starts. If a job is inside the Congestion Charge zone during charging hours, that is added at cost.

From a wonky fence to a fresh coat of paint, one team does the lot: painting, plastering, plumbing, floors, fences, carpet cleaning, end of tenancy cleans, and the odd jobs that never quite get done. Specialist work, such as rendering or tree surgery, goes to someone we know by name and have used before.

Yes. Our end of tenancy clean covers the whole property, carpets included, plus the small repairs and touch-ups agents check for, with a free re-clean if anything is flagged within 48 hours. A studio starts from £180. Carpet cleaning on its own starts from £45 a room.

We take on a few more homes each season, postcode by postcode, so we can keep doing right by the ones already on the list. Give us your postcode and we will tell you plainly whether there is room near you. We work across north, northwest, west, southwest, south, and central London.

Yes. A small permanent team does the day-to-day work, so it is the same faces each visit. People who know where the stopcock is, and which floorboard creaks.

Usually it starts with a free 10-minute video call, so we can see the job and price it without a trip. If it needs a proper look in person, the visit is £30 – we come round, note what needs doing, and get to know the house. Then you get a plain price, half-day or full-day, with no surprises, and the £30 counts toward it whenever you go ahead. Dust sheets down, shoes off, radio low, and everything left tidy.

Kind words

By recommendation, mostly.

They knew where our stopcock was before we did. Three winters in and it is the same two faces every time, which is rather the whole point.

A wonky gate, a dripping tap, and a wall that needed making good. One visit, one team, all of it done by lunch and swept up after.

We have a period house that does not forgive shortcuts. Fettle treat it the way you would hope, quietly and properly, and the price was the price we were told.

What sold me was the once a season look over. They spotted the gutters going before it became a proper job, which is exactly the sort of thing I never get round to.

Dust sheets down, shoes off, radio low. You would hardly know they had been in, apart from the fact everything simply works again.

We came to them the way most people seem to, a neighbour would not stop going on about them. Now we are the ones going on about them.
